DISTRICT NEWS
HORSHAM DOWNS. Road Improvement. The question of roading our district has been the subject for general discussion of late, and most of us are pleased to know that the petition for raising £4OOO has been sufficiently signed, and approved of by the Road Board. It is understood that the Board has taken the matter up in an enthusiastic manner, and it is hoped the money will be available without much trouble, as roads for next winter we must have. Horotiu Bridge. The writer had the pleasure of seeing the plans for the bridge at Horotiu, which is to be built in concrete. The design is similar to the Hamilton town bridge. With the completion of this structure our district will be quite up-to-date in every detail. Demand for Land. The demand for land out here has set in a pace. One farm which was sold during the winter months, and put up again for sale, brought out two genuine buyers in one day. Messrs Lichenstein and Arnoldson intend putting in a motor tractor almost immediately to work up some of their unimproved land. Drainage Work. The value of the. drainage work undertaken by the Freshfield Drainage Board some *lB months back, is now shown very plainly. What was swamp during winter and spring two years ago is now hard and dry with a good sole of grass, capable of carrying a well-loaded dray without breaking the turf.
