THE FRENCH MISSION
M METIN'S DEATH. COLLAPSES SHORTLY AFTER ARRIVAL. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received August 18, 5.5 p.m. VANCOUVER, August 16. At an American Pacific port, M. Albert Metin and General Pau, »?n route to discuss war questions with the Australian Government, were welcomed enthusiastically. M. Metin became ill shortly after his arrival, and was unable to participate in the festivities. He retired to his room, and was found unconscious on the floor, dying shortly afterwards. MISSION TO CONTINUE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) * Received August 18, 5.5 p.m. WASHINGTON, August 17. News from a Pacific port stateß thnt M. Metin's body will lie in state »n the City Hall until it is removed for interment in France. The flags throughout the city are half-mast, and there is general mourning. All festivities have been abandoned. It Is understood that General Pau and the others will continue their journey to Australia.
