__—__♦ ACTIVE SERVICE RECORD. WELLINGTON, Saturday. "Several times," stated Sir James Allen (Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Defence) to a Times representative yesterday, "the question lias been asked as to the New Zealand Staff Corps, whether they would all be sent to the war. When the war broke out the New Zealand Staff Corps was 8i strong, and since that time 17 cadets, graduated of the Duntroon Military College, Ims been taken on the strength, bringing the total to 101. Of these 77 have embarked on active service, 10 were transferred to the Royal .New Zealand Artillery and to active service, two were retained in New Zealand to fill special appointments, 10 were retained as being unfit for active service, one was transferred to the, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, and one was retired untlt for further service. Of the 77 who embarked on active service, 12 were killed in action, one died on service, 41 are still serving with the Expeditionary Forces, 19 have returned to New Zealand on duty, three have returned to New Zealand for retirement, and one has been transferred to the Imperial Army, of the officers who have returned some have again become fit for active service, and these will return to the Expeditionary Forces from time to time as suitable oftleers are found to till their places. Up to date the officers in the New Zealand Staff Corps have been awarded 101 British and foreign decorations, an average of one each.
