SUNK IN A SQUALL. STEAMER CARPATHIAN LOST. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received Julv 20, 10.40 a m LONDON, July' 19. The steamer Carpathian was sunk in a squall. It is feared that there was loss of life.
JAPANESE TRADE iN AUSTRALIA. (United Press Association.) Received July .0, 9.20 a.m. SYDNEY, July 20. As showing the expansion of Japanese trade in Australia since the war, in 1913 Australia imported £436,000 worth of Japanese soft goods, while iu 1917 the imports amounted to £1,561,000, with a growing increase in the current year.
