GIRLS' FRIENDLY SOCIETY
At the annual meeting of the Hamilton branch of the (iirls' Friendly Society on Tuesday night a very gratifying report of the past year's work wis read by the secretary. During the year (or rather six months, as no meetings are held in the summer months) the girls completed close on 100 beautifully-made articles of clothing for the children of disabled sailors in England, as well as raising the sum of £BO for the [{,h\ cross fund. Part of this amount was collected bv Mrs Tompkins, one of the associates, and the balance was the proceeds of the G.F.S. sweet stall at the Red Cross bazaar last November. Associates and members all worked for some weeks in connection with this stall, and the result was most gratifying! It is evident that the members believe in acting up to the motto of the Society, by helping others The report further showed a large increase in membership, and at the present rate of progress the St. Peter's branch stands a fair chance of becoming the largest in the Auckland diocese, the position at present held by St. Matthew's branch in Auckland.
After the election of officers for tlie ensuing year, 15 new members were admitted by the president, Mrs H Yalder.
