There was nation-wide observation of BastiMe Day, and the tricolour was flown on all the public buildings. Mr Wilson sent the following message to M. Poineaire: "July 14, like July 4, lias taken on a new significance throughout the whole world. W celebrate the 14tii as trance celebrated the 4th. T lie war is being fought to save ourselves from intolerable things, also to save mankind."
Mr Baker, Secretary of War, sent the following statement to France:--"We were comrades at the beginning of our democratic careers, and France anil the United States are again brothers in arms in defending democracy."
