CONSCRIPTION OF ENEMY ALSENB. V By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Friday. At Uie Council of Agriculture Mr W. Reid (Feilding) moved that the Government be urged to conscript for national work at soldiers' pay all eligible enemy aliens and persons of enemy alien descent. Mr J. A. Young (Waikato) said the remit was too indefinite as it stood. He suggested the following addition: "Who may claim exemption by reason of their enemy parentage." The mover of the remit agreed to this addition, also to the deletion of the words "at soldier's pay." Hydro-Electric Power.

On the question of hydro-electric power the following remits were carried unanimously • "That, in the opinion of this Conference, the establishment of a national hydro-electric scheme for the Dominion is of the utmost importance as an aid

to the production and establishment of primary and secondary industries, likewise the general development of the country. The conference suggests that the Government he urged'to further the project of a State hydro-electric scheme ■without delay as being the chief economic work to be undertaken." "That the Government be urged to proceed with the Electric Power Boards Bill." '.That the Government be asked to appoint an Advisory Board to assist the Government in the distribution and sale of electricity." Other remits adopted were that the Government be urged to run special trains to and from agricultural shows where such can be done without interfering with the requirements of the Efficiency Board: that the conference considers it advisable, on account of the shortage of shearers, that all sheepowners should be asked to engage •wherever possible one learner to every four shearers or part thereof. The election of members of the council resulted as follows: North Island, Messrs Donald, E. A. Campbell and Edwin Hall: South Island, Messrs J McPherson, W. D. Hunt and R. W. Lockhead.
