Lieut. H. Daniell, who received a severe wound in the leg, is rxpected to return to his home in Masterton. Lieut. Daniell is a brother to Mr P. C. Daniell, of Hamilton. The following Justices of the Pears have been appointed for this district : Samuel J. Bennett, Orini; Edward P. Cowles, Hamilton; J:!>n P. Fow, Hamilton; Thomas Hnnna, Itoto-o-raugi: Samuel E. Henry, Te Akau; Thomas McGuire, Te Akau; Arthur Morris. Ngaruawahia; Walter Norrell, Te Aroha; Bartholomew Sheehan, Hamilton; Frederick W. Thomas, Rotctuna. Inspector de Silva, who has teen an inmate of the Waikato Hospital for some time past, is expected to leave that institution next week. It »s probable, however, that he will not be well enough to resume his duties for some time. At last night's meeting of the Borough Council the hope was expressed that Inspector de Silva would soon be fully restored to health. A tlegram from Whakatane states that Mr Henry H. Metcalfe, civil engineer, of Auckland, engineer to the Whakatane Harbour Board, dropped dead on the beach while inspecting the harbour works shortly after 4 p.m" yesterday. Deceased was well known in Hamilton, where he resided for many years. He was engaged with MiIsaac Corlis in the carrying out of various large works, including the Palmerston North waterworks, and the first portioi of the Main Trunk line south of Te Awamutu.
