RAILWAY CHARGES INCREASED
OPERATING AFTER TO-MORROW. | In addition to the general increase in railway fares announced in Wednesday's Times, operating after to-morrow, considerable changes have been made in railway charges inother directions. With tlie exception of season tickets within the suburban area (where the rates remain at present), the rates for ordinary season pickets are increased by Id • • the shilHng. The fares for weekly twelve-trip tickets and for workers' weekly .tickets are no*, altered. Addiional charges re o be levied for sleeping berths, reserved seats, tourist excursion •• tickets, and season tickets. Sleeping berth rates will be raised to lis 9d, and on the Main Trunk and Ro. torua expresses the fee for reserved seats will bo 8d each. Tourists' tickets are raised to £l4 Is Bd, and those available for four weeks to £8 13s 4d. Considerable changes have also been made in the rates for luggage and parcels. The scale of parcel rates will be increased ton per cent, with the exception of checked luggage, left luggage, and for'bread flour, fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh milk, tea and sugar. Another alteration affecting passengers is that (which will cause all tickets issued to terminate, tiieir currency at midnight; that is. !a ticket issued on Monday available* for throe days, will only be availably up to midnight on Wednesday. Locfj.l rates at present in force for the conveyance of timber and other goods have bojMi cancelled. Timber in the future will be conveyed at ordinary classified, rates, but the 10 per cent, increase will not. be added.
