At the inquest to-day a verdict was returned that deceased committed suicide whilst temporarily insane by. exploding a detonator or dynamite in his mouth. The police at Waimate received word this morning iliat a pocket book and purse belonging to Alfred Bestwick was found on the beach a little north of Timaru. bearing Bestwick's name. : Bestwick has been missing since November 2. A ladies' Orange Lodge was established in Hamilton last night, when over 50 members were initiated and officers installed by Right Wor. Bro. J. Olphert; Grand Chaplain, of Waihi. After the installation ceremony over 100 members and friends sat down to supper, and a very pleasant time was spent with toasts, musical items, etc. Much enthusiasm was displayed. Several visitors were present from Cambridge and Waihi.

.AfcJast night's meeting in the Hamilton Town Hall, Mr Worsley explained that Rev. R. B. S. Hammond was in charge of a mission in Sydney. After 15 years' work his parishioners had decided to send him on a holiday to America, and had found it necessary to put three men in liis place during his absence. Mr Worsley said Mr Hammond was receiving nothing for his trip to. . Hamilton, and they thought it would be a good thing to take up a collection on behalf of his Sydney mission; This was done, the satisfactory sum of £ll 5s being contributed. * r .

In his lecture at the Hamilton Town Hall last night, Rev. R. B. S. Hammond stated that he had been parties fei'rjy interested in an experiment being tried in Chivago. In that great city a Municipal Court of Domestic Relation had been established with a judge, to whom unhappy married people brought their troubles. The judge deals with between 50 and 60 cases every day, and was doing wonderful work in patching up domestic troubles, building up home lire and preventing thousands of cases of divorce. His method of dealing with young married couples and inducing them to "try again" was remarkable, and had been very successful.

At the Police Court. Hamilton, this morning, before Mr Rawson, S.M., a first-offending "drunk," was fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, being given until Monday to find the, money. Robert Doun was charged with drunkenness, and with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. Senior Sergeant Cassells said accused was a harcl-working mn, but had been drinking heavily of late. He was found last night .vijh two others having a regular "smoke concert" in Peach Grove Road, Hamilton East, and, was so drunk that he had to be conveyed to the Police Station in a motor-car. The sergeant suggested that the man should be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, and that if he offended again he should be sent to Pakatoa Island. The Magistrate adopted this course, pointing out to the accused the degradation of his drinking habits. Accused was also ordered to pay 5s for motor hire.
