THE SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN
THE WEEK'S LOSSES—SI BRITISH AND 10 ITALIAN VESSELS. 24 BRITISH SHIPS UNSUCCESSFULLY ATTACKED. Received May 3, 7.15 p.m. LONDON, May 2. The shipping arrivals for the- week were 2716, and the sailings 2690. Thirty-eight vessels over 1600 tons and 13 under were sunk, while 24 were unsuccessfully attacked. Eight fishing vessels were sunk? An Italian naval communique reports that for the week ending April 29th 627 ships arrived and 521 left Italy. Tiiree Italian steamers and seven sailing vessels were sunk. NEUTRAL TERRITORIAL WATERS USED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.! Received May 3, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, May 2. In the House of Commons Sir Edward Carson, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated that there was a suspicion that enemy submarines mostly came through neutral territorial waters.
