ENEMY SURPRISED AND DRIVEN FROM FORTIFIED POSITION. REGIMENTAL COMMANDER AND 359 PRISONERS CAPTURED. (Australian and New Zealand and Reuter.) Received May 3, 7.15 p.m. LONDON, May 2. Mesopotamia official: General Maude on Monday attacked the 13th Turkish Army Corps, which was strongly entrenched on both banks of the Sliatt-■el-Adhaim. The attack took the enemy by surprise, and his first two lines, "including a fortified village, were rapidly and irresistibly stormed. A strong punter-attack lost us the village, but we speedily regained it and the enemy was driven back to the Gebehhamrin hills. « Our prisoners totalled 359, including two battalion commanders, and the captures included a Hotchkiss gun and a large quantity of ammunition. ViOEROY OF INDIA'S SON KILLED IN ACTION. (Router's Telegrams.) Received May 3, 7.15 p.m. SIMLA, May 2. Honourable Frederick Thesiger, the eldest son of Lord Chelmsford, who W as in the Royal Artillery, was killed in action in Mesopotamia.
