ACCUSED BEFORE THE COURT

CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. P. C. Webb, M.P., James O'Brien and Pe'er O'Rourke, were charged on remand tc-day with making seditious statements on the West Coast. The case against O'Brien was taken first. Accused applied for a trial by jury, but the Magistrate said "you have not the right in this case." An application foe the trial to be held at Grey mouth was refused.

OKourke was sentenced to eleven months' imprisonement. O'Brien was convicted, the Magistrate saying that all men would like to sen the war finished, and no doubt accused was sincere in his sentiments, but his utterances tended to interfere with recruiting. He was sentenced to imprisonment for eleven months.
