HAMILTON RUGBY UNION.

The annual meeting of the Hamilton Rugby Union was held at the Municipal Baths last evening, Mr J. Varney presiding over an excellent attendance of members.

The report was read, and despite the gloomy aspect of things in general, the Union had a successful season both as regards play and finance, the financial statement showing a credit balance of £6 13s lOd. The Cup was won by the High School, who were also successful in winning Mr Trigg's sweaters at the seven a-side tournament. The Grammar School Old Boys visited Hamilton and tried conclusions with the local fif. teen. After a most exciting match the visitors were successful in winning by a small margin. Home and home matches with Morrinsville we:e played and the Sacred Heart College engaged the local St. Mary's Club. The medals for the best back and forward in the grade were won by H. Johnston (City) and S. Moore (St. Mary's) respectively. In conclusion, the Union desire to thank Messrs Varney and Trigg for donations, the St. John Ambulance Society for their untiring efforts in attending injured players, and the Hamilton Domain Board for improving the playing areas. The Union regret the deaths of two of the oldest and popular members, Messrs C. Cowley and G. Richards.

The following motion was put before the meeting: "That rule 12 be altered to read v 'That the management committee consist of the president, vice-presi-dent, secretary, one delegate nominated by each club, and one delegate from the Referees' Association.' " A lot of discussion followed when Mr Colin Speight moved an amendment to read, "The managing committee consist of the delegates elected by each club, and two delegates from the Referees' Association."—The original motion being withdrawn, the amendment was carried. Ihe following office-bearers were elected:—Patron, Mr T. Clarkin; president, Mr J. Varney; vice-presidents, Messrs Fred. Jones and R. J. Gwynne; delegate to South Auckland Union, Aj C. Speight. It was decided to open the season on May 19th. A committee consisting of Messrs Varney, Hamilton and Colin .Speight, was appointed to revise the rules of the union.

On the motion of Mr J. Qualtrough, a vote of thanks was passed to the outgoing officers.
