SHORTENING THEIR LINES
EAST TRANSYLVANIA TO BE ABANDONED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) Received Sept. 1, 11,45 a.m. VIENNA, August 34. The newspapers announce that .the general staff is considering the evacuation of all South-eastern Transylvania for the purpose of shortening the line. / NEW YORK, August 31. Military circles estimate that if the Austro-German line in Transylvania is shortened it must mean the abandonment of at least 10,000 square miles to Roumania.
