DESECRATION OF GRAVES.

i'Th the Kdilor.) Sir, —I wish tit draw, attention lo a matter which has probably caused annoyance In others besides myself, and which ret'eas Id the mischievous desecration by some persons unknown of the graves in our local cemeteries. I may say that early yesterday morning I visited and placed fresh flowers on a grave in the West cemetery. Late in the afternoon I again had occasion to visit the cemetery, ;md discovered that the iliiwers had been removed. It is not by any means the first occasion mi which this lias occurred, and (lowers irrowing on the graves have repeatedly hem piilled. The matter has been placed before the local authorities, hut apparently any action they may have taken to stop this kind of thing has been williMiil result. Another source of annoyance is (he frequency with which the -lass wreath covers in the cemeteries are broken. As the damage is done apparently mostly on Sundays, possibly more supervision on the part of the caretaker might i I the ease. At any rate some effective means of bringing the offenders to book should be adopted.—l am, etc.
