DETENTION OF MAILS

Correspondence between Britain and Sweden lias been published relating to Swedish detention of British parcel mails to Russia, as n reprisal to the British parching of Sweden s parcel mail for contraband. The correspondshows that Sweden announced this wmrisal measure on December IS. V isSSit Grey requested that the mails Should immediately be released, adding fUat the Government would welcome an explanation of their detention. Sweden replied justifying her action by the so-called Hritish violation ot binding treaties and the law ot nations. Viscount (Jrev replied that such a grave charge was unusual 111 diplomatic documents, and must be repudiated in the strongest manner. British action had been scrupulously correct, whereas Sweden's action bad been wholly and avowedly illegal, constituting :i duett challenge to Britain's national sovereignty.
