DRUMMED OUT

AT LIVERPOOL CAMP.

5 That the warning given by MajorGeneral McCay, in a recent address at Liverpool Camp, that any man persisting in absence without leave, or misconducting himself, would be discharged, was not an idle threat, was shown at the camp recently, when the beginning was made with the punishing of those who have disgraced the uniform, says the San. Four men were publicly presented with their discharges, and then drummed out of camp. These four men. who were charged with being absent without leave for various long periods, and other offences, were paraded before the military court, and discharged. They were subsequently taken before the whole of the battalion to which they had belonged, and presented with civilian suits of clothing. After they had changed into these from their uniforms they were again marched on to the parade ground, escorted by a guard of a dozen men, with fixed bayonets on this occasion. The battalion was then called to attention, and the Command ing Officer, Lieut. Col. Jobson, prej sented the four men with their discharges, whch he read aloud to the parade, after which the armed guard marched the men out of the camp to the accompaniment of the beating of four kettle-drums and one big drum. The discharged men were given railway tickets to Sydney, and put aboard the train. The soldiers in camp generally appreciate the new method of weeding out the goats from the sheep, and the better class men are confident that treatment of this kind will quickly dissuade the undesirable members of the community from making Liverpool a haven of rest during stormy times.
