At that time h ; s friends considered that he had taken leave of his senses, and condemned hiv transaction. He settled on bis new holding and farmed it successfully until n few days ago, when lie accepted an olb i of 111 per acre, or a total of .-CSTiM in excess of the price he paid for the land. Tin's deal goes to show t!i; speculation in land lias been a most profitable investment, and dispels the id,..i i! at the war and the consequent beavv taxation that lias Keen levied on the land has been responsible for arresting and decreasing its marketable value.
