WAIKATO DISABILITIES

DISCUSSED BY PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.

The unfair distribution of non-com-missioned officers was a matter of complaint at a meeting of the Waikato Patriotic Committee to-day. The chairman, Ah' A. E. Manning, said that while Waikato sent away lid monthly, as compared with 300 from Auckland, the city was allowed to appoint 25 nonwhile Waikato had been limited to five. It was i ndesirable that pettiness should he created in this matter, but lie thought, in fairness to their own men, that the Waikato Committee should represent the matter to the authorities.

It was decided to act on the chaii man's suggestion.

Mr .Manning also complained that while there wore a lot of artillery and ambulance men in the district anxious to get away, the authorities here could not accept them for service with their particular branches, it was an extraordinary thing ihat not a single artilleryman had been sent from Waikato this yea.'. He had been waited on by members of the two branches of the Service he hid monvionod,"in reference to this. In one or two instances men unable to enlist here had to Auckland to do so. It Appeared that it was impossible for those men to away without resorting to string-pulling.

'lbe attention (f the authorities is to be drawn to this matter also.
