CAMBRIDGE BOROUGH COUNCIL

The first ordinary meeting of the n n w council was held on Friday evening. The Mayor, Mr Wells, presided, and there was a full attendance of councillors.

The Mayor Btated he had been requested by the committees to invite councillors to attend the meeting called to form a branch of the Natonal Reserve, also to a concert at Leamington on Friday. June 4th, to augment the fund for the Cambridge district *c.ontingenters, got up by Mr S. Adams, of Auckland, and to a dance in the Town Hall, on Friday, June Bth, promoted by a ladies' committee as a "send off" to the Cambridge district members of the next reinforcement draft. He trusted councillors would be able to attend some if not all of the functions. Cr Bell was added to the Parks and Gardens Committee, he always having taken interest in such matters. It was decided that the Parks and Gardens Committee, together with the other councillors who wish to become acquainted with the localities where improvements are being made, meet at the Council Chamber of Monday, 7th inst., and make a tour of inspection. The estimates of receipts and expenditure were adopted, and a general rate of Is lOd in the £ was decided upon.

The Works Committer recommended that those requiring crossings over the footpaths to their premises should pay the whole cost. The repori was adopted.
