A meeting of shareholders in the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Works will he held in the King's Theatre, Hamilton, at 2.30 p.m. on Thursday, when important matters in connection with the industry will he discussed. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., wish to draw the attention of their clients to their Matamata sale to-morrow, when they will offer a good yarding of fat and store cows, 18-month to 2-year empty heifers, good Shorthorn heifers in calf, good steer calves, and calves off turnips. Full particulars may he seen in their advertising columns in this issue.

A public meeting at New Plymouth set up a committee to organise town labour to assist the farmers at harvesttime with a view to encouraging an increased growth of cereals. The hope was expressed that a similar movement would he made in other parts of the Dominion.

An elderly woman who was a passenger for the south by the Main Trunk express last night was dragged by the train for some yards as it drew into Frankton station. It appears that the woman in question was standing on the platform of one of the carriages waiting for the train to stop to enable her to join the rush for the refreshment room. Ultimately she stepped off before the train stopped, and, losing her balance, fell between the carriage and the station platform. Fortunately she retained her hold of the iron railing on the carriage, and although suffering from shock and minor bruises when rescued, did not sustain serious injury.

A new railway time-table came into operation in the Auckland Province today. The most important alterations are in connection with the express trains between Auckland and Rotorua and Auckland and Thames. The express train which in the summer runs from Auckland to Thames will be discontinued, and an express will leave Auckland for Rotorua at 10 a.m., taking passengers for Rotorua, Taumarunui, Waihi ,and Thames. An express will leave Rotorua for Auckland at 9.30 a.m., arriving at Auckland at 4.55 p.m., and the Taumarunui, Cambridge, Thames, and Waihi trains will connect with the Rotorua service.

Mr arid Mrs Gallagher, of . Queen street, Onehunga, celebrated their golden wedding to-day. Mr Gallagher arrived in Auckland with his parents in 1847, and settled in Otahuhu. When the Waikato war broke out he joined Colonel Nixon's Cavalry, and was in the actions of Rangiaohia, Orakau .and Te Ranga, Tauranga, in 1863 and 1864, and he holds the New Zealand war medal. Mr Gallagher followed the gold rushes to Thames and Te Aroha, and during his residence in the latter place he was a member of many local bodies, of a rumber of which he was chairman. Mr and Mrs Gallagher were married on June 1, 1865.
