The secretary o: the Auckland Automobile Association inquired if the road at Hopuhopu, about one mile on the north side of Xg>ruawahia, was in the Hoard's dis.rict. At the point referred to, the writa r said, the road takes a sharp min from the west to the east side ol the railway. There was no linger post at the point indicated, and if the locality was under the Heard's jurisdiction the Association offered to pay half cost ol en-ting ;i sign post.— Held over until a reply v. as received from the Association in regard to what was wanted on the sign post when erected.

Mr .John Alexander, banister and solicitor, Auckland, informed the Board that his clients, .Messrs Foubister Bros., denied any responsibility whatsoever for the damage complained of l>v the fire which the Hoard alleged had spread from Messrs Koubir-tor Bros.' property, and for which the Hoard claimed £so. The clerk was instructed to write to certain parties and obtain the nature of the evidence they would be prepared to give if an action were brought. Writing from Gordonton, on behalf of the settlers. H. Whittaker drew the Hoard's attention to the state of the Piako-Gordontori road, the middle of which was hollow and prevented the water from getting oh".—To be informed that the work would be carried out immediately.

H. H. Maekay and six other ratepayers of Xeustead asked that the road leading to their respective properties be put into a thorough state of repair. —The foreman to he instructed to have the matter attended to.

W. J. busby (chairman) and Ray Jones (lion, secretary) reported that at a meeting of ratepayers, held in the Oriui Hall on April 1. the following resolution was carried unanimously:

"That we ask Mr Thompson to inspect the metal on Mr Lowe's property and report to the Hoard, with a view of taking up a lean for metalling the road from Air Rye's corner for a, distance of one mile in the direction of the Tauhci bridge.'' The following further motion

was carried at the same meeting: "That the Kirikiriroa Road Hoard hi

asked to put pipes across the road where necessary between the Orini creamery and Proctor's road.''—The Board resolved to instruct its engineer to report upon the quality of the metal in the proposed pit, and at the same time to inspect, and report upon the Taupiri metal. It was decided to instruct the foreman to attend to the nutting in of a culvert at the Hillside creamery, across the road into Mr Thomas' private drain, the latter being agreeable to such course being adopted.

In answer to an inquiry on the point, the District Engineer of Railways (Auckland) advised that there was no need lor an Act of' Parliament to connect with the New Zealand Railway lines. All that was required to be done was for the Board to make application to ike Department for private siding connection when required.—Received.

The secretary of the Auckland Provincial Belgian Relibf Fund forwarded a circular dealing with the scheme for keeping up regular monthly contributions. Auckland was asked to find a larger sum than any oilier province in New Zealand, and any amounts which were given tor the purchase of the Lindauer pictures would also ho devoted to the fund. This would carry a £ for G subsidy from the Government. Taking the Government valuation as a basis the hoard's proportion would he £24o.—The hoard was of the opinion that the County Council was the proper authority to contribute to the fund.

If tlio board is unable to do the latter T recommend that a narrower formation on the easier grade be adopted, to be widened later as finances penr.it. 1 enclose herewith a statement of the works comprised in the | ropnved Horsham Downs-Fre-hfields special rating area.
