Passengers who arrived in Auckland state that the collision occurred without any warning. The gojds train was getting off the main line at the siding, and the porter was at the_j>oints. It was almost clear when the express ran into the engine of the goods train, striking the express diagonally about the uiddle. Two cattle trucks in the goods train ivere kicked off the line, and a sheep ruck was smashed to matchwood. The engine of the express was knocked o.vor sideways, and was badly mashed in front, and fell over the )ank almost into the swamp.
