Police Delay Draw.

IN EXHIBITION ART UNION. AUCKLAND, Twesday. One of the various art unions arranged in connection with the Exhibition was that relating to a handsomelycarved billiard table, valued at £750. Permission, apparently, was obtained from the commissioners to carry out the raffle, hut when the time came to draw for results the Exhibition had closed. As far as can he gathered, the proprietor sought permission to proceed with his art union from the Minister for Internal Affairs, and was referred to the Exhibition commissioners. Yesterday lie went to the secretary of the Exhibition (Air Holmes), and proposed drawing for results in his nresence, but the secretary apparently declined to be associated with the proceeding. It now transoires that the police have notified the author of the art union that unless the draw is made on a stipulated date, for which permission has been granted by the Minister, the art union cannot proceed. Superintendent Kiely. when seen regarding the matter, said the authorities were exceedingly careful in regard to all art unions, and a strict watch was kept to see that the conditions under which a permit was granted were fulfilled. The permit in this case expired at the close of the Kxhibition period, hut no doubt another would be granted.
