At the Medical Congress, discussing a paper on syncope, collapse and shock, Dr. Martin (New Zealand) declaim that the'influence of fear'tad a decided tfeatin® cm shock and there was the great mental factor to 'lie comfjattodi and allayed. Referrintg to battlefield injuries, he said that the mental state of soldiers had an influence in the production of shock. After the itattles of Grnsspan and Belmont the patients entered the hospitals in excellent spirits, hut after the disaster at Magersfontein they were depressed and miserable and the shock of pronounced suffering was greater.
