BOXING.
AGAINST THE FIGHT. JOHNSON-WELLS MATCH. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) LONDON, Sept. 20. The campaign initiated by the Rev. F. B. Mayer, minister of Regent's Park Chapel, to stop the imatoh between Jack Jchnson and Bombardier Wells at Earl's Court on October 2 is gathering foroe, and columns of protesting letters are appearing in the daily newspapers. Mr Meyer visited the Home Office. An influentially signed memorial is being prepared. The Bishop of London, Dr. Winnington Ingram, bas joined the agitation. The South African News states that it appears that the Government will prohibit the importation of cinematographs of the fight, fearing their effect on the native mind. A UNION'S PROTEST. (Received Sept. 21, 10.15 p.n.) LONDON, Sept. 21. The executive of the Boxers' Undo i, which is roistered as a trades uni a, denounces the attack on the Johns jWells fight and appeals for the support of trades unions to counteract the agitation against a sport from which they derive a livelihood. It praises boxers' moral qualities through the sport compelling them to eschew vices. ARBITRATORS WANTED. FIGHT (PROMOTER'S PROPOSAL. (Received Sept. 22, 9.40 a.m.l LONDON, Sept. 21. Mr White, promoter of the prizefight, proposes that the Rev. Meyer should nominate six arbitrators and the Sportsman, newspaper, another six, and if they; decide that kindmatograph pictures are degrading Mr Meyers shall open a fund to repay the £SOOO given by the photographers for the right to the pictures. Mr Whiie further suggests that three men .-hall control the fight to avoid the introduction i,i oflsnsive elements. Mr Mey'T declares his intenticn to persist in his opposition owim; to racial consideration. MILLIONAIRE COULDN'T WAIT. LONDON, Sept, 21.
