COUNT STOLYPIN'S ASSASIN.

StoQypiu, the Russian Premier, who was shot by the lawyer Bogrof at the unveiling of a monument to Alexander H. at Kieff in the presence of the Tsar, is loss seriously injured that was at first supposed. The bullet, which lodged in the muscles of the back, struck a crucifix M. Stolypin was wearing-, and slightly grazed Ms liver. The Tsar visited the wounded Minister's bedside a t the hospital. He secured admission to the theatre by telling the police that an anarchist was coming to kill the Premier, and by offering to point out the assassin if he was admitted. The police thereupon gave him a stall. Inquiry has revealed that Bogrof, like Azeff, ex-chief of the Russian Revolutionary Socialists and a police spy, combined terrorising methods with detective services. He was employed as an agent oi the political police at Kieff for two years, and was specially assigned to protect 'high personages. Bogrof confessed that he was entrusted to watch over the Premier's safety, and that he intended to attempt the murder of a more exalted personage, bat was deterred owing to the fear that the outrage would be followed by a massacre of Jews. Prior to his attack upon M. Stolypin Bogrof joined in the greetings and ovations given by the Tsar. M. Kovovtsoff. Minister for Finance is discharging the duties ol ActingPremier pending- the recovery of M. Stolypin.
