«. THE CLAY INHERITANCE. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Friday. In connection with the large inheritance of Mrs Clay, it appears that her father's brother was one of a family of four. He invigrateid to Caiaada as a youth and acquired a property on which oil was found and heoame a member of the Standard Oil Trust. He married at an early a?e, :but h»is wife died childless fifteen years ago. A stramre episode in the history of Clay's own life adds interest to the present romance. His grandfather died worth five million, and though there were a number of relatives Clay's inheritance was a one. He was only a !>oy at the time, and by the time he came of as'e his share of the fortune had entirely disappeared.
