COMMISSIONER'S FINAL REPORTS.

FORTY-FOUR PETITIONS

NORTH ISLAND PROTESTS

WELLINGTON, This day. The Representative Commission met this afternoon to prepare their final reports defining the boundaries of the electorate district®. The North Island Commission will meet in Wellington and the South Island Commission in Christchurch. Forty-four petitions protesting against the proposals of the North Island Commission have been forwarded. The districts affected are Franklin, Raglan, Ohirtemuri, Thames, Egmoat Stratford, Wanganui, Otaki and the Hutt. The petitions protesting against the removal of Te Aroha into the no-license district of Ohlnemuri are also largely signed. The reports eir bodying the final decisions of the Commissions will be communicated to the Governor, and it is expected that the reports wiil be presented to Parliament within a week. Should the Commissions decide to make any alterations in their proposals, there may be some delay, as maps showing the defined boundaries must accompany the reports.

CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday

The South Island Representation Commissioners are sitting here today. The proceedings are not ope>n to the press, and the Commission declines to give information concerning the nature of the objections lodged against the proposed boundaries. It is probably that they will finish work to-morrow.
