RAILWAY FOR RAGLAN

REPLY OF MINISTER. (By Telegraph—Special to Waikato Times.) Wellington, this day. __ In the House this afternoon Mr H. J. Greenslade elicited an important statement from the Minister for Railways respecting the proposed Railway from Te Kawa station to Kawhia and Raglan. The member for Waikato asked whether the Government will, at as early a date as possible, give the necessary authority for a trial survey of the proposed railway from the vicinity of Kawa station on to the Main Trunk line to Kawhia and Raglan. The Hon. Hall-Jones replied " I shall be glad to give the hon. member's request favourable consideration when an officer is available for the purpose of undertaking this survey. WHANGARAU BLOCK. STATEMENT BY MR CARROLL. Mr Greenslade has also been urging upon the Native Minister the necessity for acquiring the Whangarau block of Native land, for settlement purposes, and in the House this afternoon he asked the Native Minister whether the Government have yet completed the purchase of the Whangarau block, near Matamata, and if not could he make any statement as to when the purchase is likely to be finished and the land made available for settlement. The Hon. Mr Carroll said the Chief Justice had advised him that an appeal was pending regarding the relative interests of the Maori owners, and until the Appellate Court has sat the Government cannot negotiate.
