CAMBRIDGE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

A meeting of the Council of the above was held on Thursday evening last, Mr J. H. Hammond presiding. The Government's offer to give £SOO towards a clock tower for the proposed new post office, and £3OO towards a .£6OO dock was considered, it being decided to thank the Premier for the geoerous offer, and to =rate that the Chamber of Commerce will undertake to raise the balance of £3OO required. A vigorous canvass of the district will be made at once. The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce wrote asking the Cambridge Chamber's cooperation in an endeavour to get telephonic communication established bdtween Hamilton and Cambridge. Mr W. J. Meddings, Aoting-Superintendent of Electrio Lines] wrote re a proposal to establish telephonic communication between Cambridge and Karapiro, saying the work would be carried out on the necessary guarantee being given. Mr C. C. Buckland undertook to interview some of the settlers re the guarantee. Efforts are to be continued to get a telephone line through to Kaipaki. The manager of the Waihi Goldimning Company wrote that he did not think the Company would renew its offer to the Government for electrical power from Hora Hora Rapids tor the present. The questun of the altered electoral boundaries and their effect on Cambridge was discussed. It was thought that * protest would be unavailing, ana that in any case as the interests of Cambridge must necessarily be overshadowed by those of Hamilton, it was just as well perhaps to let matters take their ou.se Appreciative reference was made to the manner in which Mr K. J. Greenslade, M.H tt., had looked after the requiremens of the district. The quartealy meeting of the Chamber will be held on Thursday, the 17th inst.
