The final of t lie Austral whirl race was won l>y Thomas, with Helrr second, and Morgan third. It \.as the best Austral ever seen. After going six laps the back markers drew up with the middle division. Thomas was riding strongly when the bell went. Smith and liendy led all along the back stretch. Thomas then closed up, while Morgan, who had previously caught the leaders, led into the straight with Hehir close up. Half-way from home Thomas gave a great jump, and dashed away, winning by a length. The time taken was ->m -V.'s, which is a record for the race.
