RAILWAY WORKS.
MINISTERIAL STATEMENTS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Yesterday. The Hon. W. Hall-Jones says the Aew line to Cheviot will be opened by the end of March. Works on the Northern Trunk line were going on very well, and he hoped before the end of summer the trouble in connection with that line would be over. Every effort was now being made to push the rails foiward as rapidly as possible, so as to minimise the inconvenience and cost of cartage, and enable the works to be proceeded with more vigorously during the winter months. He added that he •would be much disappointed if the work should not be completed before the end of 1908.
