The Raglan County Council met at norn , on Wednesday, thoie were preeeit : Crs. Hewett, Annandale, Cobnrn, Bankart. MoKinnon, Johnstone, Bruce, Crawford, and Edwardi. The Clerk took the chair and nailed upon Councillors to elect their Chairman. Cr.Bir.kart, after eulogising Cr. Hewett ' for the nianner in which he Lad fulfilled the office, moved that be be re-alerted.— This was seconded by Cr. McKinnon and carried unanimously. Cr. Hewett then took the chair and thanked the Council for the honour con ferred upon him. Cr. Bankart and Mr BleQuiro were reappointed representatives of the Council on the Hospital and t hantpble Aid Board. Theßiglan County Council resumed at 9 a.m on 'lhursday. Mr W. C. Felle", of Onewhero, wrcte asking the Council to prevent cattle and horse?, some of th"m diseased, wandering the ground.—He was advised to iinV ui.d the cattle and inform the S'ock Department of the disease, and th»t the * C uncil cannot interfere. The Manager for Mr G. Craw wrote tha' : the drain on the Rangiriri and Whangape roads was oboked. It was agreed to rrquest Messrs Hamilton, B ookec, and others, to clear their draio, legal opinion to ba taken as to whether the Council can call upon private : indntduils to keep their drains cleir. The Okatea bridge was damaged by timber from Ceulthnrd's booms. Mr Coulthard was in attendance and asked the Council to assist in necessary repairs. It was agreed to leave the matter in the | ban Si of the Engineer and members for the ridings to examine the bridge and arrive at an agreement with Mr C oulthard, I as to the proportion each party shall bear. Mr G. Mnir wrote from Opuatia that the road from Turner's Junction to Wuiramarama is impassable owing to a land slip. There has been over £IC'M spent on this road, and he thought it should at least be open for horse traffic. He also objected to the bridge being barricaded. The matter was left in the hands of Cr. Crawford to adjust. Mrs Underwood wrote asking the Council to pay Id additional royalty for 70 yards of stone taken from her property. To be written to asking who promised the extra Id.

Charlton Dawson wrote asking the Council to lower a culvert at his boundary to throw all surface water into the main drain. The Chairman said that Mr Dawson had been informed that it was the intention of the Council to construct a new culvert. Mr MacDiarmid, solicitor, wrote, on behalf of his client, Mr S. Knight, who had Raglan township, stating that the main road had been formed through the original section of four acres, and cuts off a small area of about one-eighth of an acre. He asked whether the Council would assist him to obtain the small area. Deferred for further information. The Council deoided to support the Piako County C uncil in its endeavour to obtain representation fcr c untry districts on the Auckland Harbour Board.

A petition was received from Mr Martin and eleven other ratepayers asking that the Furoa road be taken over by the Council and formed into a separate riding with a nr-mber to represent it.—T e Council has no power to do anything in regard to this till 1908. An .application was received from tl e Taupiri West Coal Company, asking that a :a!vert be enlarged.—They will be asked how much they are willing to contribute. as the Council considers the present culvert sufficient for the road. The Government Accdent Insurance Department notified that their policy included contractors or men employed b.v them in any labour carried out by local rtodiee.

About 20 men are employed in reforming and widening the road at the various places. In the Whaingiroa riding very little beyond the works on theßaglanWaipa main roads has been attended. The Eaglan-Mangatawhiri road has mbch improved; there are no broken csrts rr waggons strewn along the road this seaseason. As there is a grmt of £IOO for Hill's road and £4O voted by the Council there are questions of compensation to settle before the road can be finally d eid*d upjn. In the Karioi riding tbe roads are in very good order. The second mile from the Qpotaru bridge has been constructed ; tbe contract for tbe third mile was let but was abandoned. There is an asset of about 200 yards of metal in the quarries Very little beyond work on the m»in road has been attended to. Considerable repairs have been carried out to the What*. whata bridge, at a cost of about .£4O.
