WELLINGTON WOOL SALES. WELLINGTON, November 17. The first wool sales of the season were held to-day, 1500 bales being offered by various brokers, There was a large attendance of buyers, and the wool, as a whole, was better grown than last year, though heavier in grease. There had been some reason to fear that to-day's sale would open badly, owing to the low prices which had been offered privately for clips of crossbred woo), but prices went up to a high level—higher even than vendors' ideas of current values. Half-breds, of which there was only a small offering, were strongly sought for. Light Romney skirted ■old up to Hid and unskirted to lid. Horßes.—Owing to last Friday being a holiday, there was no sale held at the Haymarket. At Papakura on M. nday we held a special horse sale. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, there was more tuan tie advertised number yarded, and a large atteudanoa of buyeis. Springers especially were required and realised from XI LOs to X 5 17s 61 (nothing choice yarded); euipiy young oows and heifers, X2 10s to X 3 lis; forwardoonditioned cows, to X 4 19s; yearlings to 18-uionlbs steers, XI 12j to X2 16s; no grown Bteers penned; strong oilves, to XI 3s; small, 9s; well-bred bulls, £5 10s to X 7 15s. Several horses changed hands at from X 4 7s6dt)X2s ss. Theie were very few dairy and store cattle penned at Remucra on Thursday, owing no doubt to the heavy rain; those were at late values. Fat and young calves, in short supply, sold freely. There was an average yarding of fat cattle of choice quality, which sold freely throughout at an advance on late sales, ox beef selling to 21s the IUO.b, cow to 20a. Steers ranged in price from X 7 to Xl2 ; cows, X 4 to XS 15s; 300 sold. Sheep, penned in u-ual numbers, sold freely, best selling to 23s 9d ; lighter weights to 19s; weighty ewes to 20s 6d, others to 17* j 1350 sold; hoggets to ly\ Fat lambs, short of requirements, were better worth, heavy selling to 20s, others 14j 9d to 163; 262 sold.
