AGRICULTURAL NOTES. Following an English custom, says the Wairarapa News, .Mr EL Tancre'd, of Park Road, Carterton, has taught his cows to drink their own milk when they are calving By ihis means, says Mr Tancred, the cowa suffer from no complications. At no other time during the year will cows drink their own milk. Mr Gilru'h thinks that anyother hot drink administered would have the same effect as the milk. The declared value of the live stock exported from Great Britain during July was and ranks as the highest total for that month during the past twelve years, and most probably higher than any previous month of July since the export trade of British stud stock commenced. During the first seven months of this year live stock breeders have received no less than £946,712 for stock sent abroad, the larger proportion of which is unquestionably pedigree stock. Compared with the corresponding period of 1905 this year's aggregate to date is 71 69 per cent, larger than then, and in round figures above any previous total for the same period of the year. It is, of course, not surprising to find that a large increase in the declared value of stud stock exported has tßken place, because of the notable prices that have been paid at many sales, but rather the surprise is that the increase of the declared value i 9 not greater. The faults of brushing and speedycutting, which are such common defects in the action of horses, vary in seriousness in different cases. Many horses brush only when they are tired out or when they are weak and not in a fit oondition ; and in this case the fault need not be looked upon as being very serious. But when a horse brushes habitually and constantly, then the fault is very serious. Among horses that brush, some do so only when going at fast paces, and not when they are walking, while others will brush when movirg at a walking pace, as well as when trotting or cantering. Some special method of shoeing may in certain cases be effectual in preventing a horse from brushing to a great extent, but in the majority of casosthis fault cannot in any way be remedied by shoeing. The fault of brushing is not at ail uncommon among young animals which are green and unmade ; in their case it is usually due to the awkwardness of gait and weakness or want of control over the movements of the limbs. In these circumstances no importance need be attached to the fact if the limbs is correct and the action is satisfactory. The fault will disappear when the animal gets into working condition, and when it becomes more handy in its action. NEW ZEALAND DRUG CD'S MANURES.
