■ ♦- THE CONVENTION. CONSULTING THE COLONIES. LONDON, November 1. Mr Winston Churchill, in reply to Mr William Redmond, said the NewHebrides Convention was not sigual until the views of the Governments of Australia and New Zealand upon it .had been consulted, and their aipiiescence, albeit, reluctant, been obtained: but long before the draft was even provisionally concluded. Lord Elgin had constant detailed communication with the Colonial Governments concerned, and during the protracted negotiations which have occurred, no e'ffort had been spared and no resource neglected to secure the permanent interests of the colonies and the largest possible measure of their claims.
