NEWMARKET STOCK SALE. (By Telegraph.—Special to Waikato Times.) AUCKLAND. This Day. The >ow Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited report: At Newmarket yesterday ox beef sold to 235, cow 17s to 20s per lOOib; fat steers, £6 15s to .£l2 15s; oows, £3 15s to .£B. Sheep.—Fat wethers, 21s to 30s 6d; ewes, 16s 9d to 27s 3d; hoggets, 13s 6d to 20s ; lambs, 16s 6d to 20a. Pigs.—Porkers, 21s to 38s; weaners, 9s 6d to 16s. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, September 22: There are signs of improvement in the mutton market. Great scarcity exists of light weights, and holders are not anxious to sell. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 3£d for light weights and 3§d for heavy weiehts. The prices of North Island mutton is 3§d, according to weight. '1 here is a good demand for all lamb, considering the late season. New Zealind brands are quoted at 4}l for light weights and 4id for heavy weights. The stocks of New Zealand beef on hand are light and the market is firm. The average prioes are 3Jd ana for hind and forequarters respectively. The butter market is very firm. Choioe New Zealand is quoted at 117s; Danish, 1265; Canadian, 1159; Siberian, 106s per cwt. There is better demand for cheese. Canadian is quoted at 62s per cwt. The hemp market is firm, with a general active demand. G.f.a.q., spot, Wellington, is quoted at J834 10s per ton, and October and December shipments at a similar price. Manila, fair current, on spot, is worth X4l per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, and buyers are not keen on business. The quotation for bright clean, 171b dressed seed, is 44s per cwt. CATTLE ADVANCE XI. SYDNKY, September 25. Theru is a dear market lot cattle at Homebush, and prices advanoed XI a head.
