FALSEHOOD THE CAUSE. NEW YORK, September 25. Public houses are still closed in Atlanta city in cousequenoe of the anti-negro riots. Seventeen com. panies of infantry, besides cavalry and artillery, are maintaining order. It r uow appears that mauy of the alleged criminal assaults on white women were not assaults at all. BRUSH \VITH~7HE~POLtGE. OFFICER AND NEGROES KILLED. NEW YORK, September 25. Negroes at Atlanta ambushed and killed a police officer, and wounded four out of ten constables. The other policemen retaiiaoed, killing several of their assailants. ANOTHER STORY. POLITICIANS AND PAPERS RESPONSIBLE. ._ | NEW YORK, September 25. The New York Evening Post , J states that the Atlanta outbreak was the result of the campaign denunciation of the negroes, whom the politicians aud press of Georgia pursued for the lust six months. One of the newspapers oll'ered a reward of a thousaud dollars for killing negroes accused of assaulting a white woman
