The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., reports : Cattle.—At Newmarket yesterday ox beef sold to 21s: cow, IGs to 20s; fat steers, £C> 5s to ,£lO 153; cows, £3 10s to £1 15s j calves, 15s to 28s. Sheep.—Fat wethers, 20s to 2os; ewes ; 17s 0d to 23s 6d ; lambs, 13s 6d to 18s. Pigs.—Porkers, lis to 56s ; weaners, 7s 6d to 15s. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. WELLINGTON, Monday. The Industries and Commerce Department has received the following cablegram from the Higli Commissioner, dated London May 5: There is a dull sale of all qualities of mutton. The supply is increasing, and there is an inc'ination to force sales, which makes the market weaker, though not actually lower. The average price of Canterbury brandi to-day is ijd for light and 3fd for heavy weights. North Island brands are selling at 3Jd for best quality, and for secmd quality. The lamb market i 3 weak and stocks are distributed amongst agents who are pushing sales, and the low prices are increasing the output". The average prices to-day are 4fd and ii;d for Canterbury and other tban Canterbury brands respectively. The beef market is quiet, with no change in prices to report The butter market ; s quiet, but firm. There is a fair demand for better grades. Supplies are increasing from Ireland and Siberia. The average price of choicest New Zealand butter to-day is lOlsper cwt; Australian, Oti*; Argentine, 95=?; Danish, 105s; Siberian, f)(>s per cwt.
