MISSION AT ST. PETER'S HAMILTON.

Following i lie opening service.-: on Sunday the three urssioners yesterday settled to their week's work in the form already made known throughout the town and its near districts.

Commencing wlih the daily Eucharist, followed l>y Murniog Prayer, the first service of instruction was held from 12 to 12.30, the Bishop being the conductor. Mis Lordship took for his subject, "The laws of the Kingdom of God," and for lessons and text St. Luke X, 25-37: "This do and thou shtlt live." He began by showing that English Churchmen should know the laws of the Kingdom, as they were confronted with the ID commandments at every celebration of their chief service, which commandments representing to men, as they did, the claim of <tod in the moral law, were constant, while the laws of science were ever changing as new discoveries disclosed principles previously unknown. The service at 2.30 for intercession, was conducted by the B shop, and the many requests for intercession at such an early stage of the mission, go to show that there is a strong lateDt desire amongst churchpeople for help in the spiritual life. The address was given by the Rev. H. R. Jecks, from St. John. The Rev. Harold Favell conducted the children's service at 1.30, and a good attendance of children, who entered very heartily into the singing, and showed great eagerness in grai-ping the teaching given them on " The Christian Calling. "

At 7.30 p.m a good start whs made in singing mission hymns. The service began at 8, the Bishop conducting it throughout and preaching. He announced an open-air service would be held next Bright's Hotel I'very day—if fine—at 12.30, besides those services already announced. The subject for the evening was ■' Judgment,"based upon the preaching of St Paul at Athens, Acts XVII, 31. "He hath appointed a day, in which Me will judge the world in righteousness by that Man whom He hath ordained." Christianity is a republication of natural religion. Judgment is a distinguishing between character and character. Repentance is judgment anticipated.
