AUSTRALIAN PROPOSAL.
LONDON. January 30. The Pall Mall Gazette's naval correspondent, commenting on the Australian proposal to spread the expenditure of a torpedo flotilla over seven years, says the warships become obso. leteso rapidly that the first portion of the Australian flotilla would be almost useless by the time the latter was built, Moreover, the cost of maintenance would not be insignificant. Much better value would be obtainable by handling theentire sum as a contribution to the Imperial Navy. r
