The opening match of the Frankton Cricket Club, is to be played to-day. We hear that Messrs Bhide and Atkinson are about to erect large and up-to-date coaching and livery stables on the site of their present premises in Victoria-street, Hamilton.

The Federal House of Representatives has appointed a Select Committee to report on the best means of establishing old age pensions in the Commonwealth, The Rev. John Erwin, formerly of Cambridge, has been inducted Jto the pastorul charge of the Xorth-Kast Harbour (Dunedin) Presbyterian Church. Dr. Brewis having kindly placed his lawn at the disposal of the Hamilton Lawn Tennis Club, some of the members have taken off their coats to mow, roll «nd mark it in readiness f>»r the opening of the seaseason, which is fixed for this afternoon. A private cable received in Dunedin reports the death at London of Mr. Michaehs Hallenstein, agei 73, brother of Mr. Bendix Hallenstein, of that city. Deceased was the Lond >n partner and one of the three brothers of the firm Hallenstein Bros.

A Press Association wire from Auck'and states that the Anglican bishop, Dr. Neligan, received the Rev. Patrick Cleiiry, from the ministry of the Church ot Rome, into the ministry of the Church of England yesterday.

There was a crowded attendance at th i Farmers' clubroooi, Cambridge, last evening, when the matter of the Domain Board's proposal to cut up several sections in the Te Koutu lake reserve, and offer them for lease as building sections, was discussed. The matter was dealt with on its merits, and a motion carried without dissent, disapproving of the Board's action. A full report of the meeting will appear in our next issue.

The newly formed Cambridge Musical Society is making good headway with " The Messiah," under the conducto hip of Mr Thomas Lowe. We are by the committee to state that next Monday evening is the last night upon which intending members may join. A number of both male and female voice" is still needed. Those intending to avail themselves of this last chance should communicate with either Mr Lowe (conductor) or Mr G. W. Venables (secretary).

On Tuesday n«xt the New Zealand Lo. and Mercantile Agency Co. will hold their usual Ohaupo stock sales, and will offer large numbers of yearling and 2yr-old steers and heifers, a line of over 100 2 to 3yr-old choice steers from Te Mata, together with dairy cows and springing heifers and store cattle. Owing to the Te Kuiti sale being held on Wednesday, the sale will start sharp at 12 o'clock with the dairy stock.

Messrs Ellis, and Burnand, are pushing on rapidly with the erection of their sash and door factory, near the Hamilton railway station. They have lately put down a substantial tram-way of considerable length connecting with the Loan Company's railway siding, for the purpose of conveying the boiler und heavy machinery required for the new building, and it is found to answer the purpose admirably. Quite a number of visitors have been attracted to view the proceis and the premises.

The Secretary of the Waikato Agricul tural and Pastoral Association informs us that, considering the backwardness of the season, the entries for the coming show exceed the most sanguine expectations. In several of the classes there is a large increase, notably in sheep and cattle, and additional accommodation will have to be provided. The entries for horses are not so numerous, but this is mainly accounted for by the backwardness of the season, and by the fact that a number of good horses have left the district. The implement display also promises to be very good.

Weather permitting, the Hamilton Town Band will play on Sydney Square to-mor-row afternoon, and a pleasant musical treat in eharming surroundings may be anticipated. The following programme will be rendered: March, Hosanna" (G. Mee); fantasia, "Sabbath Chimes" (IT. Round); euphonium solo, "Village Blacksmith" (Weiss); minuet, "Queen Anne" (Ord Hume); song, "The Golden Pathway" (Hamilton Gray); " Kyrie," Mozart's 12th Mass; 6chottische, " Coon's Holiday " (Felix Barnes); march, "Crown Him with many Crowns" (Elwar.l Newton); " God Save the King." " Sunnyside Estate," Hamilton East, Mr E. de C. Drury, surveyor, who has been busy cutting up this magnificient property into choice suburban lots of five acres and upwards, announces the completion of the work. Lithographs will be ready in a few days and intending purchasers are invited to make early application for selections. The prices are low and the terms exceptionally easy.
