NEW ZEALAND LOAN & MERCANTILE AGENCY COMPANY'S WEEKLY MARKET REPORT. Horses.—At the Durham Yards on Friday a large number were brought forward and disposed of. The attendance was good and for those of a good stamp there was keen competition. Heavy draughts brought from £35 to i>4?; medium do., il6 10s to £3B; light harness, .£8 10s to .£2l ss; hacks, .£6 10s to j£LB. A sulky brought .£lO 10s; horse, trap, and harness, £2O 15s. Cattle.—At the Newmarket Yards on Tuesday fat stock was penned in full numbers. Bidding was brisk, and fat cattle sold at improved rates. Steer beef sold up to 23s per 1001b ; cow, 18s to 21s. Dairy cows were yarded in larger numbers than for many weeks, and sold at from 15s to £ll 10s ; empty do., £3 2s 6d to .£4 7s 6d ; calves, £1 15s to £2 18s. Fat oxen sold at from £6 10s to £ll 2s 6d; do. cows, £4 10s to iJB. The fat cattle were all of excellent quality, especially a draft of Mr F. Manning's, from Otau. Sheep.—The Newmarket Yards were well filled on Tuesday, and sheep of all descriptions met a keen sale at improved rates. We quote: Wethers, at from 12s 9d toj£l3s9d; ewes, 10s 6d to 19s. Lambs yarded in full numbers, of good quality, sold at from 7s 6d to 15s 3d; other sorts, 5s Gd to 7s 9d. At Warkworth on Wednesday there was a good muster, and competition was keen. Grown steers, .£0 os to j£6 15s; empty cows, £2 153 to £4 12s 6d ; calves, .£1 15s to £2 8s; dairy cows, £4 10s to £ > ss; fat cattle at Newmarket rates. At the clearance sale of Captain Crawford's dairy cows and horses at Tuakau on Monday there was a large attendance, and satisfactory prices were realised. Dairy cows sold at from £4 10s to £7 15s; empty do., £2 15s to £4. We submitted an average catalogue of hides and skins on Tuesday. Hides.—Market firm. Maize. —Market over-supplied and price fell considerably, prime selling from 2s Id to 2s 2d. Oats. —B grade is worth Is 9d c.i.f. Chaff. —Stocks are gradually accumulating. Present rate, £4 10s, c.i.f* per ten for rime samples. Potatoes.—Now that the supply of Southern is fully up to requirements, the local potatoes are being neglected, and only the very best samples are selling at £2 10s per ton. Butter.—Prices are ruling the same as last week. Orders are coming to hand freely, but supplies are somewhat in excess thereof. Cheese.—Demand is slow, and stocks are accumulating. LATEST SOUTHERN MARKETS CHRISTCHURCH The local market for wheat is at a standstill. The advantage of cheap freight has been nullified by a further fall in London, parcels b.jing worth, probably, no more than 28s 6d in Mark Lane. There is consequently a weaker tone locally, and although previous quotations cannot be changed, they are quite nominal. The quantity offering is small. Oats are offering froely, hut transactions have been on a very small scale, although a concession on quotations has been offered on lots v.Kich are not quite prime. The London 1 rket is reported much weaker. Following are Christchurch quotations for purchases from farmers, net cash, sacks extra:— Wheat.—Mixed lines of Hunter's, Tuscan and Pearl 2s 9d ; Pearl alone 2s lOd ; Tuscan alone 2s 9jd, and Hunter's 2s 8.1 per bushel at country btations. Oats.—Milling Canadians, Is 7d; Duns, Is 4d to Is sd; Sparrowbills, Is 3d to Is 4d ; Danish, Is 2d at country stations. Barley.—Malting, 3s to 3s 2d per bushel; secoud quality, 2s 2d to 2s 6d: feed sorts, 2s f.o.b. Oatsheaf Chaff. £2 5s at country stations. Potatoes.-Der wen ts, 22 s 6d per ton off forks. Kidneys, 45s and Early Rose 30s for picked lots. Onions.—£2 15s per ton at country stations. Peas.—Partridge, 3s 2d to 3s 4d ; Blue Prussian 3s 3d per bushel at country statiDns. Beans.—2s 8d per bushel. Flour.—Millers quote roller j-9 (251b bags £10); for export, £H 15s; pollard, .£4 10s; bran, £3. Oatmeal.—£lo. Seeds.—Ryegrass, farmers' lines 2s 6d to 2s 9d per bushel; Italian, 3s to 3s Gd per bushel. Cocksfoot, 12lb seed 3Jd, 131b to 14lb, 3|d to 4d per lb. White clover.—Superior lots, 8d to lOd per lb.
