CAMBRIDGE AUTUMN HORSE FAIR
Messss McNicol and Co. report: On the 25th and 26th we held our annual autumn horse sale at Cambridge when we offered 550 horses. Unbroken stock were plentiful but were principally of a scrubby class, a few decent medium drafts sold well, yearlings up to .£l7 10s -, 2 year-olds to £lB ; 3 year-olds, £35. Of the broken horses, good hacks, harness horses, and best cobs sold equal to, if not better, than in the spring. Ordinary hacks, cobs and medium drafts were a good deal lower.-and this not being anticipated by sellers, a good number were passed. However, taking it all through, we had a fair sale and disposed of 273 horses. WAIHOU STOCK SALE. Messrs McNicol and Co. report:—At Waihou yesterday we yarded 712 head of cattle, notwithstanding the wet day there was a good attendance and numerous buyers, with the result that nearly all stock were sold at prices fully up to those ruling lately. Good calves, 38s to 445; others, 27s to 35s ; yearlings, £2 158 to £3 5s ; eighteen month.s heifers, £3 5s to £3 15s; fifteen to eighteen-months' steers, £3 12s to £3 17s 6d; two-year-steers, £i 10s ; forward conditioned bullocks, £7 7s ; empty store cows, £3 5s to j£4- lis ; according to age and condition. Fat cattle sold freely, steers. £6 15s to £9 12s 6d ; fat cows and heifers, £5 to £8 ss; steers and heifers, 22s per lOOibs ; cows 18s to 20s ; springers, £5 7s 6d to £7 ; fat sheep, 16s j pigs, 12s to 17s ; ducks, Is 7d, aud few horses, £3 2s 6d to £7 10s. DUNEDIN STOCK MARKET. At Burnside market last week 145 fat cattle were yarded, including a fair proportion of prime heavy bullocks. There was good demand for well finished. Bullocks, £lO 15s to £ll 10i; good, JB9 to £\o ss; light and medium, JS6 15s 11 £l 15s ; best cows and heifers, £7 10s to £8 17s 6d ; good. £5 10s to £6 15s; light and medium, £4 5s to £5 s^.
Sheep.—l2fi4 were penned, only a few prime. The number proved beyond requirements, butchers having supplied themselves outside, and prices, though irregular, were down Is per head. Best wethers, 21s to 22s 6d ; good, 18s 6i to 21s 6d; light, 163 to 17s 9d; bast ewes, 19s to 21s 3d; good, 17s to 18s 6d; light, 13s to 16s 6d. Lambs.—llß2 were penned, miinlyfair to good quality. Supplies proved too heavy, and prices went back Is on last week. Best 13s 3d to 14s 9d; medium, up to 12s 6d; inferior and light, 9s to lis. Pigs.—l 46 came forward and met with excellent demand. Suckers, lis 6d to 14s; slips, 16s to 18s; stores, 20s to 28s ; porkers, 33s to 41s; baconers, 42 • to 635; big pigs, 70s. LONDON CABLE. LONDON, Marsh 27. Sheep: Canterbury, light unchanged; medium, 4§d; heavy, Ijd ; Dunedin and Southland unchanged; North Islaud, ordinary, 4Jd. Lambs: Canterbury 5Jd; Dunedin and Southland, North Island 4 13-16 d. Beef, unchanged. River Plate sheep, light and heavy, 3J ; lamb, 4|; beef unchanged. Wheat. —The Montgomeryshire's cargo of New Zealand sold at 30s 3d,
