HAMILTON FIRE BRIGADE.
There was a good muster of volunteers, for the purpose of forming a Tire Brigade in Hamilton at the Council Chambers last evening, Mr Horsnell in the chair. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read by the secre;ary, Mr S. Hughes proposed, and Mr G. Mayes seconded, "that the brigade consist of 16 active members (including officers) and six reserve men," which was carried unamiously. It was announced that 28 men had volunteered, and, aa this was in excess of the required number it was decided to elect them by ballot among those in the room. This was done, the ballot resulting as follows : Messrs S. Hughes, G. Prince, W. Prince, G. Mayes, A. Burgess, R. Gregg, J. R. Carter, J. Purcell, F. Innes, J. Matheson, J. Enersen, P. Geary, J. Greenwood, R. Martin, P. Munro and Thos. Mayes (firemen); Messrs S. Stapleton, Hyde, A. Mayes, R. Jepson, A. Hill and J. Burnett (reserve). Messrs R. Pike, and J. Purcell acted as scrutineers during the ballot, which was most satisfactorily carried out. Now that matters have reached this stage, the hopes of Hamilton having an efficient brigade in the near future seem very bright indeed. All those gentlemen elected last evening are requested to attend a meeting at the Council Chambers at 7.30 sharp to-night to elect officers, etc. Anyone unable to attend should send an apology, otherwise they are liable to have substitutes put in their place in the brigade. The meeting passed a vote of thanks to Mr Horsnell for presiding.
