RAGLAN COUNTY COUNCIL.

1 he annual meeting of the above Cj'in cil was hold at Xgaruawahia in the Council Chambers on \\ ednesday. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN. On the motion or Crs. AlVKinnon ciud Bruce, Cr. Hewett was elected chairman. Cr. Hewett then took the chair and thanked the councillors for electing him. Crs. Bankart and Mathias congratulated the chairman. HOSPITAL REPRESENTATIVES. Cr. McKinnon proposed. Cr. Bruce seconded, "That Crs. Bankart and McGuirk be elected representatives for the county on the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board.' This was carried unanimously. A special meeting of the Council was afterwards held. Present: Crs. Hewett (chairman), Bankart, Bruce, McKinnon McGuirk, Lowry, La Trobe and Poland. ONEWHERO SPECIAL LOAN. Cr. Poland explained to the Council that there was some misunderstanding about the matter of the Onewhero special loan and on Ci\ Bankart's suggestion it was decided to let the matter stand over till next meeting when Cr. Poland expected to give the Council some definite information. ORDINARY MEETING. ENGINEER. The Chairman explained what he did in the matter of appointment of an engineer. Cr. McGuirk proposed, and Cr. McKinnon seconded, that tne action of the chairman be confirmed. DEPUTATION. Mr John Brooks, of Churchill, waited upon the Council to ask that the old road through his property be closed and transferred to him, he having given another and a butter road. It was pointed out that the mattei had been standing over now for several years and the difficulties that existed some years ago have since been removed. Cr. McKinnon agreed to see the settlers inteifjsted and bring the matter before the next meeting. RIGHT TO CTT FLAX. Correspondence was read from Walter H. Lang agreeing to take the flax at the price asked by the Council, and that he will not cut it till the roads are in good condition. SURVEYS E. de C. Dairy wrote that he will do the surveys requested. G. Calder agreeing to clean the Whatawhata bridge and wanting to see the engineer re the approaches. THE LEPROSY CASE. The District Health Officer informed the Couucil that it is within the powers of the Chief Health Officer to call on any Local Body to provide maintain hospitals for the reception of infectious disease cases. CORONATION EXPENSES. Colonial Secretary wrote re subsidy in respect of the Coronation celebration ex penses. Cr. Bankart suggested that the funds collected should be forwarded to the Council and that the engineer be instructed to proceed with the erection of the lamps after confering with the local residents. This was carried. SURVEY. Mr G. Mueller, Commissioner Crown Lands, approved of the Council's action re the road thiough section 183, Pepepe, and stated that a survey will be made as soon as a Government surveyor is in the district. The Government Accident Insurance Department forwarded the policy covering all the' Council s contractors and men. PUROA ROAD. Johnstone Bros, asked the C uncil to reconsider the matt r of forfeited deposit, and explaining how the mistake was mad . It was resolv d that the deposit be refunded. STATE Of ROADS. Mr J. Charleston asking that the road leading to anaki be laid oif. Mr John Brown wrote drawing attention to the state of road near Heatherington's, it w*s resolved that Mr Heatherington be notified to remove fences to the proper lines. _ Mr E Gale advised t"e Council that t ie Tuakau bridge is open for t attic. EXPENDITURE ON THIRDS. The Commissioner of Crown Lands stated that Mr J. Harper complained that the thirds accruing from his sections are not being spent advantageous to the access to the sections. Cr. Bruce stated that the thirds had been expended within half a mile of his section on the road leading to it. HUNTLY PUNT. Huntly Progress Society and the Taupiri Coal Mines wrote, drawing attention to the present unsatisfrctory state of the Huntly punt. It was decided to reply that the Council is endeavouring to better the service. LICENSING EXPENSES. The clerk to the Waikato Licensing District, asked for payment of the Council's share, £3 lus 4d, of the expenses incurred. CONTRACT. Mr F. \\. Morrow asking to be allowed to withdraw his tender and deposit for metal contract, it was resolved that he must proceed with his contract or forfeit his deposit. Gilmour Bros, asked the Council to define wharfingers duty re giving receipts, warfage at per ton, and the hanlding of. goods in the shed.
