KIRIKIRIROA ROAD BOARD.

A special meeting of the Kirikiriraa Road Koatd was held at the Waikato County Council at 2 p.m. yesterday. There were present: Messrs E, B. Cox (chairman), J no. Gordon, George Edgecombe, W. Clutty, and B. J-. Maclean. The special business was to consider the proposals of the Hamilton Borough Council with respect to the erection of a brick culvert at Gibbons' Gully. The following letter was received from the Hamilton Borough Council :-As you are no doubt aware a sum (,f £250 has been placed on the Public Works Estimates as a grant towards this work upon the understanding that any further sum required to complete it will be ■found by the local bodies interested. The original scheme as deposited contemplated tho expenditure of £450, thus leaving a sum of £2OO to be found by the two local bodies • this, upon the basis of the Borough's two' vhirds, and the Kirikiriroa Road-Board's une-third, would mean £13313s 4d and £66 6s Sd respectively. lam instructed to ask your Board therefore if.it will consider the question in this light, and as it is of vital importance to get on with the work to save the vote lapsing at 30th March, 1895, would you call a special meeting of your Board and take the neoearary steps to agree to the foregoing I may mention I have seen your clerk, Capt. -MePherson, and headvised my writing direct to you to save time.-I am, Sir, your obedient servant, C.. Gordon thought-that the funds could not bear all these charges, The first proposal had only involved the payment of interest, but now they were asked to pay the principal down,—After further discussion the Chairman moved that the Board offer £SO in liquidation of all claims in connection with the erection of the oul•vert and that in passing,the work'the Board be represented by their engineer.Mr Edgecumbe seconded the' motion, and in doing so said that he thought they could well afford to contribute towards'thk'wOrk seeing that less expenditure would have to be incurred on the bridges, as shown by the estimate supplied by Mr Gordon, than was expected.-Mr Gordon movedasan amendment that the Board decline to contribute any sum towards this work.-In seconding the amendment Mr Maclean said that he would have supported the original proposal for the pavmepMtho interest, but he had been asked by some of the ratepayers to oppose this worfc-The amendment was then put and carried, the voting being For: Messrs Gordon, Maclean, and Chitty; against, the Chairman and Mr Edeecumbe, On the 1 original motion being! put it was lost, I the .voting being\vice versa;, i v THE ORDINARY MEETING. Report.-The Foreman of Works reported that during the month he had carried out the following works:—Repaired the River road near Mrs Edmonds.' formed the Piako .road from Bakers', to.Marsh Meadows School, which;will .take another week to finish, ra-builtthe bridge at Hinton's gully, raised: the, approaches.: and sanded a portion of the road leading to the bridge,: spread material out. of Te Aroha Street dram. He recommended that the road from the railway crossing" at' Taupiri to the church, 10 chains, be reformed, and suggested that tenders be called for the work. He visited the Ngaruawahia outlet drain on the 28th in company with the Chairman; and recommended that the' outlet as far as the railway be cleared out, and from the railway crossing towards Ngaruawahia the; drain required; reforming and widening ataut twojeet. .He suggested that the thirds available be applied for this purpose. About sixty chains will require forming after the drain is done, and the stuff from the drain could be used in raising the .formation.-The; j neral opinion of the Board was,that the drain was on the wrong side of the road. It was decided to call for tenders tor about 40 chains of new drain four feet wide, on the opposite side of the road, and also have the other part of the drain cleaned out to the road. The chairman was authorised to called for tenders for the road at Taupiri.

Meeting.-It was decided to let the January meeting lapse, the next meeting to be held on Februaiy Ist, and Messrs Maclean and Cox were authorised to sign cheques in the meantime.

Drain.-The chairman was requested to inspect the Te Aioha-street drain being carried on by the Waikato County Council, and which it was reported was in dangerous ground.

Bridges.-A very full and lengthy report was received from Mr G. T. Worthington on the various bridges in the districts, the cost for material and labour in repairing which was estimated to be £ll7 Bs.-It was decided to carry out the renewals and repairs as reported, the Woodlands upper bridge to be taken in hand first,
