TE AWAMUTU ATHLETIC CLUB.

The first meeting of the recently-formed Athletic Club \vas held on the Te Awamutn race course last Friday, and was as successful as its most sanguine promoters could wish, although, ns stated in your last issue, the want of a band was a drawback, which will be remedied next meeting. Some of the finishes were splendid and must have been very gratifying to the haudicappers. The officials of the day were Judges Messrs W. Taylor and Cruickshank. Starter: Mr Henry Weal. Stewards: Messrs R. B. Brown, A. H. Storey, Dawson, Ryder, Broad bent, and J. ti. Scott. Secretary • Mr Geo. Cruickshank, junr. The next race was the President's Cup, 300 yards, for which only four started, Messrs D, Bockett (scratch), Ross (10yds), H. Bockett(lsyds) and Jas. Gardiner (20yds). Gardiner got away well and just managed to hang out the distance nicely and got home in the good time of 31 l-oth«., Ross being second and H. Bockett third. In the High Jump, Norris beat Potts by one inch, but as he had to allow him two inches' handicap, Potts was the winner, his jump being 4ft din. The 150 Yards brought out a good field and resulted in a finish that looked like a dead heat, tLe first three being all in a bunch, but the telegraph board t>howed W. I. Taylor (12yds), 1; Ross (6yds), 2; and W. Teasdale (12yds), 3. Time, lo 2-sth s. The next race, the Mile, had also a good fiek'i C.
